My mother found this recipe in the Dayton Daily News (Ohio) in the 1960s. They became a family tradition and I still bake them, but I’ve never known anyone else who had the recipe! They are tricky to make because you have to use the exact pan size. I also have a tattered copy with a photo from an old magazine. It specifies Nestle’s Chocolate Morsels, so it may have been one of their ads.
Rebecca, we had a similar recipe from the Boston Globe (Massachusetts) in the 1960’s as well. I remember them as orange blossom bars. This recipe has been long sought after and missing from my family for 30 years. Is the recipe you have the same, and if not, any chance I could get a scan or copy of it?
Thanks so much!
Can’t believe I found this online! Used to make these all the time as a teenager. Pulled out my recipe after 30 years and didn’t have the glaze recipe. Making them right now!!!
THANK YOU. I have been searching for a recipe for Orange Blossom Squares for years. I had an aunt who make them in the late 50s or early 60s. I always search the bar recipes in Cookie cookbooks in hopes of finding anything similar. I don’t remember the coconut, but the chocolate chips and orange glaze sound right on.
This has been a family tradition in my family also! I’m currently in my 20s and have always known this to be a family recipe, very cool to find out where it came from!
My grandmother made these. They were always my favorite. I never met anyone before that even knew what they were! I have a handwritten copy but it is in storage and hard to get to. I had a sudden reminiscence and was craving those squares, so I was so happy to find your post! Thanks a bunch!
These are my favorite childhood holiday treat. My mother made thses in the 60’s but died in 1974. I now have her recipe, which is this one exactly. They taste good but mine come out crumbly and the glaze crumbles off. When she made these we lived in Wyoming and it makes me wonder if the recipe need to be adjusted for the altitude difference since I now live at sea level.
I have been searching for this recipe that my mother made as a family favorite back in the 1960’s. I happened to google it and was very pleasantly surprised that there was this match! I recognized the recipe. Thank you for posting it!
