This recipe was written on a lined index card and found in a large collection, date unknown. I’ve typed it below along with a scanned copy (some adjustments made for easier reading). It lists the ingredients and the instructions for making, but no temperature or baking time is noted.
Apple Squares
Mix like pie dough:
2 c flour
1/2 teas. salt
3/4 c shortening
1 Table lemon juice
1/2 teas Bak. Pdwr
Divide – 2 parts
Roll out to fit 8×12 pan
Filling:
2 c apple slices
1 c sugar
2 Table flour (heaping)
1/4 salt (RecipeCurio note: must be teaspoon)
1/2 teas nutmeg
1 teas cinnamon
Place filling on dough. Roll out dough for top. Cut slits in top. Frost after baking:
1 c pdwr sugar
2 teas warm milk
1 teas lemon juice
