This recipe was written on a lined index card and found in a large collection, date unknown. It’s marked “Very Good” at the bottom so it must be! I’ve typed it out below along with a scanned copy.
Granger Pie
Make a pie crust and line 4 pie pans.
Put 1 cupful of baking syrup in a bowl, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 cupful of boiling water. Stir well and divide into the 4 pie crust lined pans.
Now take 3 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup shortening, mix well and put over the top of the syrup.
Bake in a moderate oven. (Very Good).
