This recipe was clipped from packaging of some kind, likely a box of Mueller’s lasagna noodles since it’s a specified ingredient. Date unknown. I’ve typed it below along with a scanned copy.
Classic Lasagne
1 pound ground beef
3/4 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons salad or olive oil
1 can (1 pound) tomatoes
2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
2 cups water
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon oregano leaves
8 ounces Mueller’s lasagne
1 pound ricotta cheese
8 ounces Mozzarella cheese, shredded or thinly sliced
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
In large heavy pan, lightly brown beef and onion in oil. Add tomatoes (put through blender or cut with edge of spoon), paste, water, parsley, salt, sugar, garlic powder, pepper, and oregano; simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile cook lasagne as directed; drain. In 13x9x2″ baking pan, spread about 1 cup sauce. Then alternate layers of lasagne, sauce, ricotta, Mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese, ending with sauce, Mozzarella, and Parmesan. Bake at 350°F. for 40 to 50 minutes until lightly browned and bubbling. Allow to stand for 15 minutes; cut in squares to serve. Makes 8 servings.
More Recipes For You To Enjoy:Thank you so much for posting this recipe! It is indeed from the Mueller lasagna box circa 1966 or thereabouts. I’ve been making this recipe for over 50 years and it never fails to get rave reviews. I always double the sauce recipe and save the remaining sauce for the next batch or to serve over rotini pasta. The sauce freezes up beautifully.
I have been making this Lasagna recipe for 40 years. And it always gets rave reviews. Still have the clipping from a box of Mueller’s Lasagna from 1975.
My Dad had used the recipe since I was a kid. I’m 47 years old today. I.asked my Dad for the recipe years ago & I also use the same recipe. This is the best lasagna ever. The only thing my Dad and I both do different with the recipe is add more mozzarella cheese to it.
Thank you for posting this! Mueller’s box no longer has this recipe on the back.
Thanks for posting this recipe! Exactly what Vicki wrote above. My family loves this. “I still have the clipping from a box of Mueller’s Lasagna from 1975.” It’s tried and true.
Best lasagna recipe ever.
Thank you!!! I lost this recipe about ten years ago, after having made it since the ’70’s!!! What a joy to find it again!!!!!
I have always added sugar and eggs to the riccotta mixture, my son’s grandma taught me how to make lasagna 40yrs ago for every container of riccotta I use at least 2 eggs and sugar to make it little sweet. I make 2 big Pan’s and I use 8 eggs,it makes it setup nicely so when you cut it doesn’t slide all over the place and don’t forget the sugar! You won’t regret it!
Thank you so very much for this post. I lost my box recipe and have been searching for years. It came to mind again today and I thought, “well I haven’t searched in awhile so let’s try again”. I’m so happy I did.
Blessings to you!!! You have made me very happy.

Me too Vicki! I got married in 1980 and starting making this lasagna recipe back then. I still have the cut out recipe cardboard from the box also! Delicious!!
I still have the the clipped recipe from the box, dating back to the early 70’s. Love it. I also get many compliments.
I have been making this recipe for many years; I cut the recipe off of a box of lasagne noodles. It is easy and delicious. I recommend making a double batch of sauce because it is great on any pasta.
Yes, this is an excellent, old fashioned lasagna! I have been searching for this and I am glad I found it! I dislike all the new recipes, shortcuts, weird, crappy ingredients, low fat blah, blah, blah. They taste dull, flat and uninspiring. It’s lasagna people!! If you are on a diet, don’t eat it!
Got you beat. I have been making it since I got married in 1965! Thank you for posting it. II was trying to do it from memory. Gin
