This recipe was clipped from a newspaper and found in a large collection, date unknown. I’ve typed it below along with a scanned copy.
THE LONG simmered sauce in third place combines plenty of onions, green peppers, celery and a host of special seasonings for its delicious goodness.
2 chopped onions
1 chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder
3/4 cup catsup
3/4 cup water
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons vinegar
Salt and pepper to taste
Simmer onions, pepper and celery in butter or margarine until clear and transparent like. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for about 1 hour.
Just wondering if you might know why the instructions on this recipe call for celery when there is no celery listed on the rest of the recipe? Hmmm…
Good catch Kirsten, sometimes there are misprints so if I come across another clipping that’s been updated with the celery amount I’ll make sure to add it here.
